The Wonders of Bible School

For the past few months Emily has wanted to be an astronaut when she grows up. She really wanted to visit Mars. But I guess she is putting that on the back burner for now. Here is today's conversation (for all those that don't know - Joy is Andrew's boss at work):


Emily: Mommy, how do you get to be a lawyer?

Mommy: You have to go to school for many years.

Emily: Well, the only school I go to is Bible School. I guess they will teach me how to be a lawyer. Yeah, they will. I learned a lot the last time I went to Bible School. Um, I wonder if I'll go to Bible School for many years. Probably. It's like 2 days. And then I'll be a lawyer. And I can have Joy's office! I need a phone and a big chair that spins around and around. And I'll make phone calls and be a lawyer just like Daddy. I'll work in his office. Actually, we can work together. Hmm, a lawyer. Mom, when is Bible School?

Mommy: Not for a VERY long time.

Emily: Well, I NEED it so I can go to work with Daddy. I need to tell Joy that I want to work with Daddy.

Where: Kansas City Music Hall When: mid-February 2020 Emily's dance competition season started out strong with her team's performance at the Nexstar Dance competition in downtown Kansas City. Answered Prayers

If you read the title and were expecting something inspirational, poignant and truly spiritual... then I would lower my expectations if I were you. Although true to the title, this post will revolve around prayer. May I just first say that this post could refer to the prayers of a strung-out father and mother both of whom had a day of hell with their beloved infant, three-year-old and puppy. Their prayers were something like: "Please God remind me that I love these people and remind me FAST!" another prayer might have gone something like: " If I can just make it a few more hours, they'll all go to sleep, please Lord in Heaven let them go to sleep." And, again, true to the title those prayers were (luckily for the daughters and puppy's sake) answered. But those are not the prayers to which the post's title refers. No. Allow me to set the stage. Allowance

Our last trip to Toys R Us brought wonderful learning opportunities for Emily. She had $10 of birthday money to spend on whatever she wanted. But what she wanted was $20. I was so proud of her for not throwing a fit when I said she couldn't have it. Instead we talked and we talked and we talked some more about the fact that she only had $10 not $20. It would have been much easier if I would have actually had $10 cash and she could have tried to buy the other toy, but I didn't have cash. And she knew it. "Just use your card mom" is what she said. This discussion led to her asking "how can I get more money?" And me replying, "Perhaps it is time for an allowance!" And so we started forming a plan. Emily gets paid $2.00 a week (half her age). Part of that $2.00 is doing what is expected of her as a 4 year old as part of our family.
