Our Girls

Emily has wanted to go camping for the longest time. As school was beginning and we all needed a break, we decided it was time to camp...with Yogi Bear of course. We made a 24 hour excursion to Eureka, Mo, to visit Yogi at the Jellystone campground. As future posts will demonstrate: it was a huge hit. It was a hectic night at the Bach household as we prepared for our excursion to visit the Yogi Bear Campground. Daddy was in charge of putting Katie to bed and cleaning up - Mommy was in charge of making a run to the grocery store. To simplify matters, Emily was going to ride along to the store, but there was a catch. She wanted to go in style. She wanted to wear as much play jewelry as the laws of physics allowed. And she did. She also wore her pajamas. Luckily no one we knew was in the store. As a post script, when Emily and Mommy were leaving the store, the clouds burst. Both mother and daughter were drenched. Emily was laughing nonstop as they hustled out to the car. She came home bedraggled, but still bejeweled. Print Page

There is a cousin of ours who enjoys the fact that Emily comes up with unorthodox names and plotlines: for instance Emily invented a name for one of her princesses: Marge, who has a prince named Garlic. In Haley's honor, we bring you the following tale: One morning while Mommy and Katie were sleeping in (a rare and treasured occurrence), Daddy and Emily went downstairs for breakfast. Emily ate her breakfast, took her dishes to the sink and began playing. Daddy then proceeded to eat his breakfast. On this particular morning, the cereal of choice was the ever popular Raisin Bran (the crunchy kind with granola in it - DElicious!). Daddy is spacing out and eating his breakfast blissfully ignorant of whatever imaginary plot Emily is concocting nearby when out of the corner of his eye Daddy sees Emily with the play phone to her ear. Emily: Ring Ring Hello? Hello? Hellllllloooooooo? Andrew (thinking): this is really good cereal, I should eat it more often, I wonder who Emily is pretendin...

Mommy: You two girls better stop fighting or I'm going to throw you both out the window! Emily: I don't think that would work. And I don't think that is very nice. God sure wouldn't like that now would he? And Jesus wouldn't either. They would be mad at you. You don't want THEM mad at you, now do you? So what are you REALLY going to do if we keep fighting? I couldn't stop laughing. And the whole conversation ended with us all hysterical:) No one was thrown out the window on this particular day. Print Page

Following in her sister's footsteps, Katie started Tumble Bee's last week. It was her first official class. She was so EXCITED that she got to go out on the mats. Normally when she goes to the "bee's" she has to wait in the waiting area while her big sister tumbles. Not this time! She was ready to go! She went through the obstacle course so quickly she actually lapped everyone else 3 times. Katie has one speed and that speed is SUPER-FAST. Coach Bob let Emily come out and help with balloon time. Katie did a great job of throwing the balloon up and trying to catch it. Emily was a great helper. Daddy and Katie waiting their turn for Katie's ride on the big ball. Side note: My new job is teaching first grade. I will only have to teach Thursday and Friday and then every other Wednesday. My friend Ann will teach the other days. It's called a job-share and we are supper excited about it! Once things get into a routine, I should only have to spend half the time of a regular teacher doing teacher-y things. But, to kick it off, I had to work 2 full weeks. Luckily the Grandma's came to the rescue to watch the kidos:) First Grammy, then Ba. The girls loved having Ba and Grammy time...they didn't even miss me at all! During Grammy's week Emily got to go to Tumblebee Camp. Em has never been to a "camp" before and she was just a little nervous. But more excited than anything. Grammy bought her a new lunchbox to take on day 2 of camp. (Mommy and Daddy decorated a plain sack with stickers and notes for her first day...but that was not good enough.) Here she is ready to go! During Ba and Grandpa's week, they took the girls on a day trip to Kansas City to see our newest cousin. While there visiting, they had fun with the slip and slide:) Here is Emily and Kate's cousin sliding away! Kate tried to go up without much success:) Kate had a ball in the swing. Grandpa pushed her REALLY high and she just laughed and laughed. Her laugh is contagious. She starts and you just can't help but laugh with her:) And here is a picture of our little dare-devil going down the big slide all by herself. She would then splash in the pool and come up smiling every time. Ba and Grandpa took some great videos of the kids sliding. We will see if we can post them later. Print Page

A few Saturday's ago we ventured to Stephens Lake Park for a fun morning outside. It was our girls first time in the "big" sprinkler park (we normally go to the small one downtown) and Emily's first time swimming in a lake. Here they are taking it all in... Katie stayed up by the fountains the entire time. (The tubes in her ears are doing a wonderful job of keeping ear infections away. We did not want her in the dirty lake water for fear of another infection.) Katie kept up with all the big kids running from fountain to fountain. She would lay on her tummy and "pat" the water and then roll to her back as the fountain sprayed her face. She LOVES water play! She also drank at least a barrel of water throughout the morning! Here is Em swimming away in the lake. She and Daddy went way far out and had tons of fun. Em can put her head under water (although it is not her favorite thing to do). And she can float on her back, when the sun's not in her eyes:) S...

Katie also got in on the berry picking madness. She strolled up and down the rows with her handy pink bucket. She really picked some berries, too. Although she also picked some leaves and some plain grass. But mostly she was there to EAT the berries. She would raid Emily's bucket or just pick them and pop the berries straight into her mouth totally disregarding the pink bucket. This is the face of a successful Berry Eater! Print Page

We followed up our trip to the stables with a return visit to Pick and Pick farm so that the girls could pick some blackberries and raspberries. Emily took her picking seriously. "I found one!" Emily and Daddy were expert blackberry pickers. It took some searching through the bushes, but we were successful with a haul of .8 lbs of blackberries. It was after all 90 degrees and we are far from hardcore pickers. A tired field hand. Print Page

Katie really started getting into petting the horses noses. I think it's possible she thought they were over-sized dogs because every once in awhile she would point to the horses and say "Puppy?" One of the employees showed Emily a trick of one of the horses where the horse would "bow". As a princess-in-training Emily was impressed that a horse could be taught to bow. Emily even felt comfortable feeding the horses from her hand. It took a few tries for her to master this. As you can see the horses were occasionally a little overzealous once they realized Emily was going to be their meal ticket. This guy loudly sniffed at Emily's hair and she flinched out of the way like he was breathing fire. She was laughing the entire time, though.
