Because Jessica likes to experiment with food, and because food coloring in cupcakes is a modern marvel, we had rainbow cupcakes! The technicolor treats were a huge hit! The baker approves. Emily would eat anything with cupcake in the title Katie was enthusiastic And Aunt Mary was over! I'm not sure if she tried the cupcakes, but I'm sure she would have loved them. Print Page

Katie has had some fun playing in costumes lately. It does not take much for Katie to invent a hilarious costume (according to her). Here she is as a Lady Bug (or Katie Bug if you prefer). After baths she wants to wear this towel around non-stop. She pretends to go to sleep and then you are supposed to come up, tickle her and say 'Get up Lady Bug, Get up!' She usually does not get up, but she does giggle uncontrollably. Other favorite costumes involve hats. Here she is as Minnie. She is cracking herself up. And just generally being pretty cute... On our odyssey to Florida earlier this year, we had a lot of happy memories. And in fact this picture was taken during a pretty happy time. Right after this picture, Katie fell asleep in my arms for the final flight of our trip. Before this flight, though, Katie (our dear, sweet and precious girl) brought us the Flight From Hell. Sometimes as a parent you look at the screaming children in Walmart and say a quick prayer to the effect of "there but for the grace of God and properly timed naps go I". At other times the naps are not so properly timed (even though the grace is pretty much a constant) and YOU are the object of scorn and pity as you attempt to leave the store with dignity while dragging a screaming child. This flight was a lot like that. For an eternal two-point-eight hours, I think there might have been people on the plane who were praying for a crash if only to end the screaming, whining, pounding and flailing of one Katie Bach. There is a place in a land far away...that has the perfect sandwich. Since we are in the business of documenting our lives (apparently) here in this space, I thought it was time to share it with you. We know it simply as the Earl. Emily could leave the sandwiches, but she would not leave the giant brownie with sprinkles. Katie was not impressed by Earl, but her tastes run to slightly simpler fare: string cheese, prune juice (they need to be in the proper balance for obvious reasons). I have heard the voices of the blogosphere crying out over our failed photos. Fear not faithful readers, I have attempted to fix the problem. Warning: it may not actually be fixed because I know about as much about computers as I know about the law. Wait a minute... okay I know a little something about the law. But I really know nothing about computers. So if there are spots on our posts that look like they should have photos, but no photos appear ...then conjure up your best mental image of whatever you'd like. Maybe you're picturing us in California, me on Jeopardy or maybe you'd like to picture us wearing superhero costumes and solving crimes. Whatever you feel like. Knock yourself out. Katie is never happier than when she is wearing fancy shoes, except when she can be wearing some one else's fancy shoe. We frequently find her sneaking into either her sister's shoe cubby or her mother's closet on a top secret mission to find fancy shoes. Once she has found the shoes, she will then tramp all around the house (sometimes this is a hazard since Katie proceeds to climb steps, dressers and really anything in her new shoes). Print Page

The weather on our California trip left a little to be desired and so we only made one visit to the beach. Here we are at sunset on the beach in Santa Monica. Jessica is freezing. My brother Chris, his wife Tracy and my parents also got to come out to LA for my television debut. We all had a blast. This is Chris and Tracy standing next to us on the beach ...Jessica is still freezing ...and in fact she is screaming because a freak wave had just drenched our jeans. Also, I conquered a dragon later that night. And Tracy was the Queen of the World on the prow of this titanic playground equipment. Print Page

Jessica grew up in Southern California before she moved back to the Midwest - a move that she resented at the time, but lets face it without that particular event there would never have been Precious Girls nor this blog for that matter. The world would be a sad and awful place, but luckily her parents are wise and made the move back to a land that has all four seasons. When we found ourselves in LA we reconnected with one of Jessica's best friends, Irene and her husband Alex- thanks again for letting us eat cake with you! We also took a trip down memory lane and drove by Jessica's childhood home. We found that someone thought this home would look better in the Emerald City and had applied a paint scheme to match. Bad decision. We also visited Jessica's old Elementary School, home to the famed Dickerson Dragons. We did not see any of the Ball Road walkers nor did we run into Mr. Spalding, but it was an intense burst of nostalgia. We also got to meet (and eat delicious Thai...

Our vacation was brought about because Andrew was going to appear on some game show. This ... Is .... We taped the show on Tuesday and Wednesday March 21 and 22 at the Sony Studios lot in Culver City, CA. After leaving the parking garage cameras were banned, but we did manage this shot as evidence. The results are top secret, but stay tuned. You can watch Andrew on the show on July 26th (check local listings for time), which also happens to be our anniversary.

We had an impromptu California adventure last week. The next few posts will be about the parents of the Precious Girls - and so I understand that we are dragging down our usual cuteness factor. The kids stayed at home with Ba and Grandpa while we parents headed to the coast. Palm trees and movie stars... and Disneyland! Here we are practicing our driving in tiny cars, which would come in handy on the freeway. And here we are in front of the castle, which may have had Disney princesses inside, but since we didn't have any kids with us we didn't bother to find out. All we did was rides. No character meals, no autograph books. Jessica found it to be less magical because we didn't get the same sense of awe and wonder. I found it to be AWESOME, though of course I still missed the little people. Just think - we ate when we wanted, we went to the bathroom by ourselves (and only when it was convenient), we had no stroller...it was definitely a change of pace. Print Page
