Kate Update (week 33 - 35)

We apologise for the lack of posting...these next few posts are to get you up to date with what has been going on in our crazy busy lives:)

Kate and Ba 33 Weeks Old
Kate is almost 8 months old.
Milestones she has reached at this age:
  • She says Momma for Momma
  • She says Da (in a low growling voice) for Daddy
  • She can wave bye-bye when you ask her (she doesn't need you to do it first)
  • She can give (wet) kisses when asked
  • She claps when you say "Yeah! Kate!"
  • She signs "more"
  • She laughs REALLY loud when Emily plays peek-a-boo or when Emily shouts "Sis" (or really anything) at her.
  • She crawls, pulls to a stand, balances, and sits back down without falling.
  • She can cruise the couch and chairs.
  • She can use her pincer grasp to pick up small cheerios or other food.

Here she is pulling up to a stand and just generally being cute:)
Week 35
Here is our littlest girl playing with the "toys" in the laundry room. I was doing laundry and she kept coming in with me to get the soda. I finally just let her play with the cans. She rolled the cans, sat on the bottles, and just generally had a great time. Who needs toys when you have cans of soda?

Where: Kansas City Music Hall When: mid-February 2020 Emily's dance competition season started out strong with her team's performance at the Nexstar Dance competition in downtown Kansas City. Little did we know that this would be the last competition of the season, and there wouldn't be much dancing period for a loooong time.  Emily and her long-time dance partner in crime Kylie And we even had time to cross the border into Kansas (booo) and see Emily's friend Kate in action at a volleyball tournament.

Answered Prayers

If you read the title and were expecting something inspirational, poignant and truly spiritual... then I would lower my expectations if I were you. Although true to the title, this post will revolve around prayer. May I just first say that this post could refer to the prayers of a strung-out father and mother both of whom had a day of hell with their beloved infant, three-year-old and puppy. Their prayers were something like: "Please God remind me that I love these people and remind me FAST!" another prayer might have gone something like: " If I can just make it a few more hours, they'll all go to sleep, please Lord in Heaven let them go to sleep." And, again, true to the title those prayers were (luckily for the daughters and puppy's sake) answered. But those are not the prayers to which the post's title refers. No. Allow me to set the stage. Our last trip to Toys R Us brought wonderful learning opportunities for Emily. She had $10 of birthday money to spend on whatever she wanted. But what she wanted was $20. I was so proud of her for not throwing a fit when I said she couldn't have it. Instead we talked and we talked and we talked some more about the fact that she only had $10 not $20. It would have been much easier if I would have actually had $10 cash and she could have tried to buy the other toy, but I didn't have cash. And she knew it. "Just use your card mom" is what she said. This discussion led to her asking "how can I get more money?" And me replying, "Perhaps it is time for an allowance!" And so we started forming a plan. Emily gets paid $2.00 a week (half her age). Part of that $2.00 is doing what is expected of her as a 4 year old as part of our family.
