Tigers, Kates and Ems Oh MY! - week 27

Katie got her first indoctrination into the ways of the Tigers last weekend. We got free tickets to the Mizzou Volleyball game and loaded the entire clan into the car for the event. And quite the event it was.

Katie met a certain gigantic Tiger named Truman
As you can see she was ecstatic.

Daddy and Katie bonded during the match. Katie might have been more interested in the flashing lights of the scoreboard than the actual game, but I'd like to imagine that every time she put a finger in her mouth it was her way of saying M-I-Z!

It's that giant Tiger again! He's everywhere! Emily - it is fair to say- is mildly obsessed with the Truman. When we go to MU events she is like a Truman GPS. 'Truman's up there now Daddy....Now he's with the cheerleaders...Did you guys see what Truman did?" Emily's near constant updates mean that someday she will be a Twitter superstar. She was very excited when she got to give Truman a High 5 and get a picture.

Please also note that Emily and Katie are wearing matching Tiger sweatshirts, but that Emily has tastefully accessorized with a flowing pink tutu. Classic. "I can be a ballerina at the volley ball game guys!"


The Missouri Matriarch and her girls. Turns out Mizzou won the game. Clearly, it was our presence at the game that pushed them over the top.

Answered Prayers

If you read the title and were expecting something inspirational, poignant and truly spiritual... then I would lower my expectations if I were you. Although true to the title, this post will revolve around prayer. May I just first say that this post could refer to the prayers of a strung-out father and mother both of whom had a day of hell with their beloved infant, three-year-old and puppy. Their prayers were something like: "Please God remind me that I love these people and remind me FAST!" another prayer might have gone something like: " If I can just make it a few more hours, they'll all go to sleep, please Lord in Heaven let them go to sleep." And, again, true to the title those prayers were (luckily for the daughters and puppy's sake) answered. But those are not the prayers to which the post's title refers. No. Allow me to set the stage. Our last trip to Toys R Us brought wonderful learning opportunities for Emily. She had $10 of birthday money to spend on whatever she wanted. But what she wanted was $20. I was so proud of her for not throwing a fit when I said she couldn't have it. Instead we talked and we talked and we talked some more about the fact that she only had $10 not $20. It would have been much easier if I would have actually had $10 cash and she could have tried to buy the other toy, but I didn't have cash. And she knew it. "Just use your card mom" is what she said. This discussion led to her asking "how can I get more money?" And me replying, "Perhaps it is time for an allowance!" And so we started forming a plan. Emily gets paid $2.00 a week (half her age). Part of that $2.00 is doing what is expected of her as a 4 year old as part of our family. It is expected that she not throw fits, get dressed in the morning, clear her dishes from the table, and be kind to all me...
