We GOT A DOG!!!!!!!!!!!

We are all super-psyched. Actually only Jessica and I know about it (of the people who live in our house that is). Tuesday morning, Aunt Mary emailed out a post from a friend of hers who had a dog available. Andrew didn't get this email. But he DID get a forward from Aunt Nancy who included the post about the dog as a Joke. Clearly, she did not realize that when one lives with Emily dogs are no laughing matter. Also we'd reached a whole new level in Emily's pining for a pet: on Sunday BT got a dog. You'll be pleased to know that its name was Kirteen. Not to be outdone, by Emily's imaginary gang, Andrew and Jessica decided upon getting Nancy's forward to check out the dog.

We met Archie (who for a day or two had gone by the alias of "Benny" in case any of you knew him from those days) and decided to make the leap into puppy parenthood. He's a 1 year old Wauzer (a westie and a schnauzer - a wauzer), he's house-trained, crate-trained and maybe even circus-trained for all we know. In just three words: He Is Awesome.

Answered Prayers

If you read the title and were expecting something inspirational, poignant and truly spiritual... then I would lower my expectations if I were you. Although true to the title, this post will revolve around prayer. May I just first say that this post could refer to the prayers of a strung-out father and mother both of whom had a day of hell with their beloved infant, three-year-old and puppy. Their prayers were something like: "Please God remind me that I love these people and remind me FAST!" another prayer might have gone something like: " If I can just make it a few more hours, they'll all go to sleep, please Lord in Heaven let them go to sleep." And, again, true to the title those prayers were (luckily for the daughters and puppy's sake) answered. But those are not the prayers to which the post's title refers. No. Allow me to set the stage. Our last trip to Toys R Us brought wonderful learning opportunities for Emily. She had $10 of birthday money to spend on whatever she wanted. But what she wanted was $20. I was so proud of her for not throwing a fit when I said she couldn't have it. Instead we talked and we talked and we talked some more about the fact that she only had $10 not $20. It would have been much easier if I would have actually had $10 cash and she could have tried to buy the other toy, but I didn't have cash. And she knew it. "Just use your card mom" is what she said. This discussion led to her asking "how can I get more money?" And me replying, "Perhaps it is time for an allowance!" And so we started forming a plan. Emily gets paid $2.00 a week (half her age). Part of that $2.00 is doing what is expected of her as a 4 year old as part of our family.
