The Great Pumpkin Festival

Every year we go to the Hartsburg Pumpkin Festival. It is in a teeny tiny town about 30 minutes away from us that I believe normally has a population of 20. During the pumpkin fest. they have thousands! Here are our girls with very red cheeks! (It was in October but the temperature was HOT!) Katie sitting on pumpkins that are bigger than her! Emily posing on a pumpkin. Both of our pumpkin princesses! Print Page

First Haircut- Age 4

Image
Emily had her very first haircut at age 4. She was SOOOO excited. She went with mommy to the salon and waited while mommy got her hair cut. Then it was Em's turn. She sat in the chair like a big girl and didn't move while they trimmed. Her hair is really long when it is brushed straight!

Heard Around Our House

Katie has begun to put 2 and 3 words together regularly and comes up with the funniest things sometimes! Today: Katie pulled a towel off the table filled with little bits of pinecones - it made a HUGE mess...on my clean kitchen floor. Katie: Oh Boy! Mommy: That's what I was thinking, Oh Boy! (not truly what I was thinking, but that is beside the point) Katie: Clean up! Clean up Katie! (and then she began to sing the clean up song: clean up, clean up, everybody everywhere, clean up, clean up, everybody do your share.) Yesterday: I hit my head. Katie came to my rescue:) Katie: Mommy uh oh! Mommy: Yes, mommy had an uh oh. Katie: kiss, kiss, kiss (and she makes the kissing sound after each *kiss* word) Mommy: Thanks Katie...that is much better. Katie: Love you! (and off she ran) Last Night: Katie threw up in her bed. I rushed in to find her sitting up. Katie: Mess! Mommy: Yes it is a mess. We will clean it up. Are you ok? Katie: Elephant! Ha, Ha, Ha! (referring to the elephant on her...

Sunday at the Park

While our house was being shown we sought refuge at Rock Bridge. Katie ran waaaaay too fast for her own good along the board walks and trails. She didn't take any major spills, though, just made her parents gasp in terror a few times. The sisters decided that teamwork was the best way to navigate the steps. Emily got adventurous and decided to venture into the Devil's Icebox. Daddy just enjoyed the fact that it was 50 degrees. Emily also thought it was a great idea to purposely stomp in the stream on the floor of the cave. Daddy: step on top of that rock, Em. Emily: (splash) But I thought I would get my shoes wet and that rock is dry. Print Page

A-MAZE- ing or A-MAIZE-ing, you decide!

Image
One sultry fall day we took the girls and Grammy East into the wilderness in order to get lost in a maze of corn. We were amazed by the maize maze. Here we are at the beginning, which could easily have been the "before" picture for a Dateline special titled 'Children in the Corn: Maze's Missing Family Mystifies' Luckily, we ended up finding our way out again. Katie and Emily alternately raced through the corn and then tiredly asked to be carried. The biggest highlights for Emily were finding the checkpoints and using the hole punch to mark our map. It's the little things in life, really. We found three checkpoints - out of a possible eight or ten- and called it a day. Grammy was a little remorseful that she wore the polartec vest on the corn maze adventure in the middle of an 80-plus-degree early fall day. But she was a trooper and was vital to the morale of the little people on the long drive home. And, hey, what corn maze adventure is complete without t...
