Events to remember

Where: Paris and an improvised Wedding Chapel ( all located conveniently in Mid-Missouri)
When: mid-February 2020

Every other year Andrew's company hosts a father-daughter event. And much like other social events hosted by VU - they go ALL OUT. 

This year's theme was An Evening in Paris. An otherwise drab and empty warehouse-like building at the Boone County Fairgrounds was transformed into a French-themed wonder land. 

                                                

Immediately upon entering, the girls were presented with flowers from the flower cart. 


There were shop windows all around giving the atmosphere of a Parisian street. Here we are in front of the "fromagerie" 
Speaking of cheese - Andrew and Emily grinning in one of the nights many selfies. 


Each girl had their make up done, there was delicious food (french fries naturally) including a whole table full of macarons, we sat for a caricature by an artist, there were performing dogs (french poodles), a ballet and generally all of the best french father-daughter fun you could imagine,


At the end of the night is was time for loosening the tie and tucking everyone into bed. It was another amazing VU event. We had a blast!
                                       

And speaking of elaborate VU events, now for something really different. After the success of the marketing department's acquisition of a handwriting robot (named Randy) they decided to acquire a second robot (named Brandy). So it only made sense (in the way that things make sense at the VU marketing building) that Brandy and Randy should get married. 

So we had a robot wedding complete with officiant, ceremony and cake ! Andrew wrote the prenup.

Where: Kansas City Music Hall When: mid-February 2020 Emily's dance competition season started out strong with her team's performance at the Nexstar Dance competition in downtown Kansas City. Little did we know that this would be the last competition of the season, and there wouldn't be much dancing period for a loooong time.  Emily and her long-time dance partner in crime Kylie And we even had time to cross the border into Kansas (booo) and see Emily's friend Kate in action at a volleyball tournament.

Answered Prayers

If you read the title and were expecting something inspirational, poignant and truly spiritual... then I would lower my expectations if I were you. Although true to the title, this post will revolve around prayer. May I just first say that this post could refer to the prayers of a strung-out father and mother both of whom had a day of hell with their beloved infant, three-year-old and puppy. Their prayers were something like: "Please God remind me that I love these people and remind me FAST!" another prayer might have gone something like: " If I can just make it a few more hours, they'll all go to sleep, please Lord in Heaven let them go to sleep." And, again, true to the title those prayers were (luckily for the daughters and puppy's sake) answered. But those are not the prayers to which the post's title refers. No. Allow me to set the stage. Our last trip to Toys R Us brought wonderful learning opportunities for Emily. She had $10 of birthday money to spend on whatever she wanted. But what she wanted was $20. I was so proud of her for not throwing a fit when I said she couldn't have it. Instead we talked and we talked and we talked some more about the fact that she only had $10 not $20. It would have been much easier if I would have actually had $10 cash and she could have tried to buy the other toy, but I didn't have cash. And she knew it. "Just use your card mom" is what she said. This discussion led to her asking "how can I get more money?" And me replying, "Perhaps it is time for an allowance!" And so we started forming a plan. Emily gets paid $2.00 a week (half her age). Part of that $2.00 is doing what is expected of her as a 4 year old as part of our family.
