Life at Court

Emily's version of the same night goes a little something like this: We drive home from Ms. Pat's. All the while I am getting the blow-by-blow account of the day. Blake's birthday is coming soon. But nobody knows how old he'll be, Daddy remind me the next time I go to Ms. Pat's to ask about how old Blake will be okay? Three of the friends played "Club". One of the friends didn't want to take a nap. Sometimes it's like she has a dictated memo of the days events and it all comes spilling out. Sometime during this monologue we stopped by the Magic Tree where Em informed me that the last time she went to the Magic Tree she got to go over the Magic Bridge and Aunt Jenn took pictures, but...we aren't doing that tonight so...I guess the last time will still be my favorite time. And then we had vocab time where Emily picked out a word I'd said and started grilling me about it. "What does decision mean." Well it means a choice, when you pi...

Two on One

At first I thought : two children - no big deal. We already had one child, so two children would be just twice the work right? That my friends was doable. Definitely doable. Actually we'd talked about having 30 or 40 kids. I mean, it's in the Bach genes. Johann Sebastian Bach: 20 kids My parents: 3 kids (slackers!) Maybe not 20 kids, but at least enough to field a football team (or given the gender produced so far maybe a field hockey team or synchronized swimming). And the logic behind this is simple: we both love kids and love being parents. Sometimes, though, there are nights that give me pause. This is the story of one such night (told in two parts and available on DVD just in time for anyone buying late Christmas gifts). We quickly found out that as far as having two kids goes instead of it being twice the work it turns out it's more like twice the work - in half the time. Apparently having another child isn't simple arithmetic, it's some ...

Homophones

Two words that sound alike but mean different things. This is Emily's new adventure in the English language. For instance, last weekend Grandpa said that Emily's shirt was too short and that her bare skin was showing. To which Emily, naturally, replied: Grandpa I don't have bear skin, I'm NOT a bear. And then she growled (which sort of undercut her argument that she was NOT a bear and made me think that perhaps she was a bear; a bare bear) A long conversation ensued in which the gathered assembly tried to convince Emily that "bare" was a word that meant something other than a large, furry, toothy woodland mammal. I still don't think she's convinced. All this time when we've been saying lets go meet someone, has Emily been imagining that we were going to throw fried chicken at that person? It begs a lot of questions. Print Page

The Wisest Words Emily Has Ever Spoken

Just in time for the New Year, Andrew received this gift from his wise daughter: Emily: Mommy, I don't think you are right (about something that happened). Mommy: You know Em, Mommy is ALWAYS right. Emily: Except when your wrong mommy. So I think we've all learned a valuable lesson going into 2010. That lesson is as follows: Jessica can be wrong. Now we can add to the list of differences between Jessica and the Pope (already on the list were 1. That he's a man 2. That he's Catholic 3. That he's German 4. That he has unfashionable sideburns 5. That billions of humans hang on his words): Jessica is not infallible. Happy New Year! Print Page

The Tree of Magic

This is Emily's favorite tree this time of year- we drive by many times throughout the season :) Katie adores it as well, she's just not as vocal as Em yet...

Santa! Santa! HO HO HO! (week 38)

Last night we visited Santa! Emily wasn't for sure at first, but she ended up being pals with him! When asked what she wanted for Christmas, Emily replied, "Princess dolls!"... to which, to our shock, he said, "I KNOW"-- creepy? magical? we don't know... Enjoy the pictures:
