Our Girls

Last weekend we went to a baby shower and Aunt Jen was in charge of the games. One game was all about music and our girl LOVED it:) Here she is showing some of her moves...

If you have a little girl at home and have not read Pinkalicious , please go borrow a copy from your local library or better yet, buy it. It's hilarious! Our girl LOVES this book. About a week ago she got on a kick where we had to read this book about 10 times a day (I'm not kidding). In the book the little girl eats so many pink cupcakes that she turns pink - lots of adventures then take place. One day when it was just mommy and baby at home together I suggested that we make Pink cupcakes like Pinkalicious. Our girl said, "No Mama, my favorite color is BLUE. Let's make BLUE cupcakes." And so we did. She took some to school to share with her friends. The first thing she said when she walked in was "YOU CAN ONLY EAT ONE!!!!" Ms. Pat thought she was talking about the fact that they were dessert and you can't eat a bunch of dessert. But no. Our girl went on to explain, "If you eat more than one, you might turn blue!"

So our girl is a talker...she has been for quite some time. Now she has started to correct us on grammar and such. 1. A while back, her grandma (Ba) was reading her Good Night Moon and read the words "Good night clock S ". Our girl said, "No, it's good night clock. Not clocks. There is only one Ba." 2. Tonight she called me into her room after she was tucked in bed and when I went in there I found her sitting at the edge of her bed. I said, "What are you doing out of bed?" She replied, "I'm not out of bed. I'm on my bed. I'm just out of my sheets." So I was forced to rephrase my question, "What are you doing out of your sheets?" Augh. I hate it when she's right:) 3. The other day she wanted to watch a movie and I said we only had one available. She then told me, "I need choices." So then I said, "You can watch Blues Clues or nothing at all." Our girl snapped back, "well, that's not a ver...

I'm not quite sure when the dress code for Hy-Vee changed, but according to our girl, you must be wearing a fancy hat (look familiar Aunt Kathy? - it's from your wedding!), a long dress, beads (lots of beads) and an apron. Sometimes she adds a tutu just for some flair. Her beaded purse is filled with sunglasses, paint color swatches that she calls credit cards (or sometimes they are tickets to the movies), a slinky, and fine jewlery. In the picture below she is packing some friends...her Little People, so they can make the trip with her.

Happy New Year! Our child and her cousins rang in 2009 with a yummy appetizer dinner and then a countdown to 8:00. They had party hats, noisy blowers, and sparkling grape juice. What more could you ask for? Cheers! You can't see the clock well, but it was exactly 8:00 - when the new year begins according to what we told our children:)

Our girl had the benefit of spreading the Christmas spirit out until New Years, when we celebrated with Andrew's side of the family. Again, everyone was able to be there so it made it extra special. It took our girl a LONG time to open gifts. She would open one and want to sit and play with it for 30-60 minutes before she was ready for gift #2. We had to really hurry her along so that she could at least get everything opened:) Daddy and his girl opening gifts. Our girl got a Bitty Baby from Grammy and Gramps and named it Annie. We were very pleased with this name choice (as her other babies are named Blue, Purple, Pink, Heavy, and Oscar...all girls!) Here is Gramps helping her get her baby out. Our girl was ALWAYS asking when Santa was going to come to our house (starting about Thanksgiving time) so we created a paper chain and tore one link off everyday until Christmas. Or we were supposed to at least. As the chain grew shorter she decided that it was getting too close to time for Santa to come and visit. So she refused to tear off anymore links. If we asked her to, she would say "I don't think I want Santa to come to my house. Let's leave the chain alone." Needless to say, Andrew and I still wanted her to have gifts from Santa but weren't sure how to do it if she didn't want Santa anywhere near our home. Andrew came up with the idea that Santa Mouse (based on the children's book) would be Santa's helper and come inside with the gifts and Santa would wait outside. That seemed ok in our girls eyes. So Christmas Eve, when most children set out cookies for Santa, our child set out pieces of cheese. She would not put cookies on the plate because...
