Running into Fall

This Fall for the first time we thought we would try out cross-country. Katie, Emily and Molly all gave it a shot. Emily decided that it wasn't for her immediately (half way through the first practice) and Molly thought it was fun to run half way around the practice course and stop conveniently at the playground!

Katie was hooked. She started to get excited about PRs and running at a good pace.

Here is her first race (the distance is 2K or 1.2 miles). She finished 14th, and we were so proud of her efforts! Then we found out that during the race she was stopping for her friends behind her, encouraging them, cheering them on and then running with them. We were proud of her sportsmanship, but ... also thought maybe she missed the point of a 'race'.
Here she is after the finish of her first race in Mexico, MO.
Time: 13 min 12 seconds. And so excited that she finished!

Here she is in one of her later races. There were four more races in her season. She finished in the top five in each, and her best finish was second place ( behind her archrival from Columbia).

Her other times:

Centralia - 10 min. 28 seconds
Fayette   -  11 min. 2 seconds
Fulton   -    10 min. 26 seconds
Boonville  - 9 min.   53 seconds
After each race she was beaming!
Here she is with her second place medal.

At the end of the season, she qualified to go the the regional meet in kansas. She also finished second overall for the entire league. We were just proud of her for trying something new and working hard at it!
