Things heard around our house...

All these conversations took place with our oldest child - enjoy:)

Child: I love you mommy! (snuggles in tight with mommy)
Mommy: I love you too!
Child: Mommy... you really smell. You smell like spit up.
Mommy: Sorry. I think it was your sister.
Child: Daddy smells like marshmallows. He smells good.
Mommy: We can't all smell good like daddy.

Child: Grandpa hold Uncle Nate's hands. (She physically takes Grandpa's hand and makes him hold both of Uncle Nate's hands. )
Child: Now Grandpa, don't let go. (Grandpa and Uncle Nate look at each other trying to figure out what is going on.)
Child: Ok, Now I'm coming to tickle you! Don't let go Grandpa! (And she proceeds to tickle the captive Uncle Nate until everyone was laughing.)


Child: Look Mommy, I'm wearing strawberries today.
Mommy: You sure are. You look cute.
Child: No, I am as sweet as strawberries today.


Child: I am definitely not going to choose the lion as my favorite (looking at a book of zoo animals).
Mommy: why?
Child: I don't know, but I am DEFINITELY not going to choose it. I am definitely. Definitely. Definitely. Actually, I am definitely.
(We are not quite sure that she knows the meaning of the word definitely...but she definitely uses it a lot these days)

Aunt Mary: What movie are you going to watch (at the pretend movie theater that our oldest Girl had set up in our laundry room)
Child: It is a movie with NOT just a tiger in it.

Sooooo, there are other animals in it too? The world may never know. All we know about the movie is that it may or may not contain a tiger, but if there IS a tiger in the movie - there are other things as well. Andrew could retire today and she could be the lawyer.

Where: Kansas City Music Hall When: mid-February 2020 Emily's dance competition season started out strong with her team's performance at the Nexstar Dance competition in downtown Kansas City. Answered Prayers

If you read the title and were expecting something inspirational, poignant and truly spiritual... then I would lower my expectations if I were you. Although true to the title, this post will revolve around prayer. May I just first say that this post could refer to the prayers of a strung-out father and mother both of whom had a day of hell with their beloved infant, three-year-old and puppy. Their prayers were something like: "Please God remind me that I love these people and remind me FAST!" another prayer might have gone something like: " If I can just make it a few more hours, they'll all go to sleep, please Lord in Heaven let them go to sleep." And, again, true to the title those prayers were (luckily for the daughters and puppy's sake) answered. But those are not the prayers to which the post's title refers. No. Allow me to set the stage. Our last trip to Toys R Us brought wonderful learning opportunities for Emily. She had $10 of birthday money to spend on whatever she wanted. But what she wanted was $20. I was so proud of her for not throwing a fit when I said she couldn't have it. Instead we talked and we talked and we talked some more about the fact that she only had $10 not $20. It would have been much easier if I would have actually had $10 cash and she could have tried to buy the other toy, but I didn't have cash. And she knew it. "Just use your card mom" is what she said. This discussion led to her asking "how can I get more money?" And me replying, "Perhaps it is time for an allowance!" And so we started forming a plan. Emily gets paid $2.00 a week (half her age). Part of that $2.00 is doing what is expected of her as a 4 year old as part of our family. It is expected that she not throw fits, get dressed in the morning, clear her dishes from the table, and be kind to all me...
