We all scream for ice-cream!

Some really nice friends of mine, called to ask if I wanted them to bring some ice-cream by the house. Now, normally, I would have LOVED some:) However, I just stuffed 3 cookies in my mouth and thought ice-cream would probably put me (and my baby in the womb) over the top. So I had to say no.

My child listened to me on the phone. When I got off she asked, "Why did you say no thank you?" I told her that they offered to bring me ice-cream but I didn't want any. She then said "You say no thank you, but I say YES! Tell them YES! Tell them YES!"

She went on to explain, "Look at my tummy. (as she pulls up her shirt.) It's sad. It needs ice-cream. It's hungry."

It was almost too much:) I was laughing really hard. In fact, I contemplated actually calling them back to have them bring her ice-cream! Our conversation ended with lots of tickles and us both rolling on the floor. She placed her head on my large tummy to rest just as it made a gurgling sound. She then said, "I don't think baby sister is in your tummy anymore. It sounds like a dinosaur! ROAR!" We laughed again, and I tickled her some more:)

Luckily, she forgot about the ice-cream.

Answered Prayers

If you read the title and were expecting something inspirational, poignant and truly spiritual... then I would lower my expectations if I were you. Although true to the title, this post will revolve around prayer. May I just first say that this post could refer to the prayers of a strung-out father and mother both of whom had a day of hell with their beloved infant, three-year-old and puppy. Their prayers were something like: "Please God remind me that I love these people and remind me FAST!" another prayer might have gone something like: " If I can just make it a few more hours, they'll all go to sleep, please Lord in Heaven let them go to sleep." And, again, true to the title those prayers were (luckily for the daughters and puppy's sake) answered. But those are not the prayers to which the post's title refers. No. Allow me to set the stage. Our last trip to Toys R Us brought wonderful learning opportunities for Emily. She had $10 of birthday money to spend on whatever she wanted. But what she wanted was $20. I was so proud of her for not throwing a fit when I said she couldn't have it. Instead we talked and we talked and we talked some more about the fact that she only had $10 not $20. It would have been much easier if I would have actually had $10 cash and she could have tried to buy the other toy, but I didn't have cash. And she knew it. "Just use your card mom" is what she said. This discussion led to her asking "how can I get more money?" And me replying, "Perhaps it is time for an allowance!" And so we started forming a plan. Emily gets paid $2.00 a week (half her age). Part of that $2.00 is doing what is expected of her as a 4 year old as part of our family.
