"Daddy say, I'm so proud of you!"

Our baby is learning to use the big girl potty. It is very exciting news here around our house. I had 2 weeks off and decided it was time. She continually told me (back when she wore diapers) "Mommy, I'm going to poop on the stairs" or "Mommy, I'm going to poop on the couch", meaning she was going in her diaper on the stairs or on the couch. I figured if she could tell me before she was going, I was going to pick the location of her poop:)

And so potty training began...and is almost complete. We still have about one accident a day. But for the most part, she tells me ahead of time and we try to make it to the potty. She is also waking up dry at night and after naps. VERY EXCITING!

Yesterday when she woke up and went to the bathroom, she did her normal clapping and yelling "Yeah!". Andrew did his clapping and yelling too (like she instructs us to do). Then she turned to Andrew and said "Daddy, say I'm so proud of you!".

Andrew and I figure that she really doesn't need us anymore. She just needs someone who will repeat what she wants to hear:)

Answered Prayers

If you read the title and were expecting something inspirational, poignant and truly spiritual... then I would lower my expectations if I were you. Although true to the title, this post will revolve around prayer. May I just first say that this post could refer to the prayers of a strung-out father and mother both of whom had a day of hell with their beloved infant, three-year-old and puppy. Their prayers were something like: "Please God remind me that I love these people and remind me FAST!" another prayer might have gone something like: " If I can just make it a few more hours, they'll all go to sleep, please Lord in Heaven let them go to sleep." And, again, true to the title those prayers were (luckily for the daughters and puppy's sake) answered. But those are not the prayers to which the post's title refers. No. Allow me to set the stage. Our last trip to Toys R Us brought wonderful learning opportunities for Emily. She had $10 of birthday money to spend on whatever she wanted. But what she wanted was $20. I was so proud of her for not throwing a fit when I said she couldn't have it. Instead we talked and we talked and we talked some more about the fact that she only had $10 not $20. It would have been much easier if I would have actually had $10 cash and she could have tried to buy the other toy, but I didn't have cash. And she knew it. "Just use your card mom" is what she said. This discussion led to her asking "how can I get more money?" And me replying, "Perhaps it is time for an allowance!" And so we started forming a plan. Emily gets paid $2.00 a week (half her age). Part of that $2.00 is doing what is expected of her as a 4 year old as part of our family.
