Severs and Road Trips and Random October Photos

We are - as these blog pages surely show - a traveling band. And in the spirit of experimentation we tried to see if we could get a Jake-seat to help our puppy travel a little more easily on our road trips. 


As it turns out... the experiment was NOT a success, but doesn't he look cute anyway?
Another new item in our lives this October was the ongoing heel pain Em has had at dance. She's now at the point in ballet where she's on ..pointe. She's at the pointe point. And all that pointing has lead to a pointed problem (in her heel). Get the point? 

At any rate, after a visit to the ever-popular pediatric Orthopedic doc, Em was diagnosed with Sever's Disease. As far as we can tell that means - heel pain in growing kids. With some rest and PT she'll likely grow out of it soon, but it means the pointe shoes are going to be on a shelf for awhile (a shelf in her room - far away from any other humans because believe me those things do NOT smell good). 

I'm not sure why exactly Emily was in her PJs with a winter jacket on, but this expression captures how she feels about Sever's Disease interrupting her dance life.


Final new news of October 2019? Jake gets outerwear! Apparently, we've decided that he needs to wear a parka-cape to go outside in the chill of fall. He doesn't hate it. So I guess we'll call that a success. And still... cute!

Where: Kansas City Music Hall When: mid-February 2020 Emily's dance competition season started out strong with her team's performance at the Nexstar Dance competition in downtown Kansas City. Answered Prayers

If you read the title and were expecting something inspirational, poignant and truly spiritual... then I would lower my expectations if I were you. Although true to the title, this post will revolve around prayer. May I just first say that this post could refer to the prayers of a strung-out father and mother both of whom had a day of hell with their beloved infant, three-year-old and puppy. Their prayers were something like: "Please God remind me that I love these people and remind me FAST!" another prayer might have gone something like: " If I can just make it a few more hours, they'll all go to sleep, please Lord in Heaven let them go to sleep." And, again, true to the title those prayers were (luckily for the daughters and puppy's sake) answered. But those are not the prayers to which the post's title refers. No. Allow me to set the stage. Our last trip to Toys R Us brought wonderful learning opportunities for Emily. She had $10 of birthday money to spend on whatever she wanted. But what she wanted was $20. I was so proud of her for not throwing a fit when I said she couldn't have it. Instead we talked and we talked and we talked some more about the fact that she only had $10 not $20. It would have been much easier if I would have actually had $10 cash and she could have tried to buy the other toy, but I didn't have cash. And she knew it. "Just use your card mom" is what she said. This discussion led to her asking "how can I get more money?" And me replying, "Perhaps it is time for an allowance!" And so we started forming a plan. Emily gets paid $2.00 a week (half her age). Part of that $2.00 is doing what is expected of her as a 4 year old as part of our family.
