A Lexington Labor Day 2019

When: Labor Day Kinney Reunion, 2019, so I guess the 'when' is... Labor Day

Every year at Christmas we have a huge gathering of the Kinney side of the family, but sometimes it's fun to gather in the summer too - particularly when our cousins have such a fun farm and a swimming pool.

Traditionally, we all went to a resort at the Lake of the Ozarks for the summer reunion, but the Lexington farm was just as much (if not more!) fun. 

The long holiday weekend was filled with picnics outside....




...an outdoor night-time showing of "Storks" projected up on the shed wall...


... and lots of time in the pool!
Of Course Aunt Mary and our littlest cousin would want to be included in whatever bizarre hairstyle is happening here.
At some point during our stay, we broke out the slip-n-slide.

Serious matters were also debated by the adults in the pool. It looks serious doesn't it?

And in honor of Grandma Bert, who was known for her vicious net play in the Lakeport Square game , there was at least one game of water volleyball

Where: Kansas City Music Hall When: mid-February 2020 Emily's dance competition season started out strong with her team's performance at the Nexstar Dance competition in downtown Kansas City. Little did we know that this would be the last competition of the season, and there wouldn't be much dancing period for a loooong time.  Emily and her long-time dance partner in crime Kylie And we even had time to cross the border into Kansas (booo) and see Emily's friend Kate in action at a volleyball tournament.

Answered Prayers

If you read the title and were expecting something inspirational, poignant and truly spiritual... then I would lower my expectations if I were you. Although true to the title, this post will revolve around prayer. May I just first say that this post could refer to the prayers of a strung-out father and mother both of whom had a day of hell with their beloved infant, three-year-old and puppy. Their prayers were something like: "Please God remind me that I love these people and remind me FAST!" another prayer might have gone something like: " If I can just make it a few more hours, they'll all go to sleep, please Lord in Heaven let them go to sleep." And, again, true to the title those prayers were (luckily for the daughters and puppy's sake) answered. But those are not the prayers to which the post's title refers. No. Allow me to set the stage. Our last trip to Toys R Us brought wonderful learning opportunities for Emily. She had $10 of birthday money to spend on whatever she wanted. But what she wanted was $20. I was so proud of her for not throwing a fit when I said she couldn't have it. Instead we talked and we talked and we talked some more about the fact that she only had $10 not $20. It would have been much easier if I would have actually had $10 cash and she could have tried to buy the other toy, but I didn't have cash. And she knew it. "Just use your card mom" is what she said. This discussion led to her asking "how can I get more money?" And me replying, "Perhaps it is time for an allowance!" And so we started forming a plan. Emily gets paid $2.00 a week (half her age). Part of that $2.00 is doing what is expected of her as a 4 year old as part of our family.
