Is this Heaven? No, it's IKEA

We had a free Saturday and we were planning to head to St. Louis for a fun kid activity and then see the new IKEA store, which Jessica has spent considerable time dreaming about. 

However, one or two of the Bach daughters had an attack of attitude and so we didn't really feel like rewarding them with something super fun. Instead, we decided to skip the kid activity and just drag them with us to Ikea. And let me just say: it was worth it. 

The store has like a glorified coat check for children. So we checked our coats...kids... and loaded up on Swedish home goods. 

Sometimes when you're a parent it's important to take time for yourselves. And if you happen to pick up a countertop for your laundry room in the process - so much the better.

Answered Prayers

If you read the title and were expecting something inspirational, poignant and truly spiritual... then I would lower my expectations if I were you. Although true to the title, this post will revolve around prayer. May I just first say that this post could refer to the prayers of a strung-out father and mother both of whom had a day of hell with their beloved infant, three-year-old and puppy. Their prayers were something like: "Please God remind me that I love these people and remind me FAST!" another prayer might have gone something like: " If I can just make it a few more hours, they'll all go to sleep, please Lord in Heaven let them go to sleep." And, again, true to the title those prayers were (luckily for the daughters and puppy's sake) answered. But those are not the prayers to which the post's title refers. No. Allow me to set the stage. Our last trip to Toys R Us brought wonderful learning opportunities for Emily. She had $10 of birthday money to spend on whatever she wanted. But what she wanted was $20. I was so proud of her for not throwing a fit when I said she couldn't have it. Instead we talked and we talked and we talked some more about the fact that she only had $10 not $20. It would have been much easier if I would have actually had $10 cash and she could have tried to buy the other toy, but I didn't have cash. And she knew it. "Just use your card mom" is what she said. This discussion led to her asking "how can I get more money?" And me replying, "Perhaps it is time for an allowance!" And so we started forming a plan. Emily gets paid $2.00 a week (half her age). Part of that $2.00 is doing what is expected of her as a 4 year old as part of our family.
