Growing Up Too Fast!

Molly Anne is 20 months going on 3 years old.


She knows what she wants and when she wants it. Her vocabulary is increasing every day and will soon rival that of her sisters. Her favorite questions to ask are "what?" And "why?" (Yes she is just 1 1/2 and already asking why...) Our conversation from earlier today:
Mom: Molly get your shoes please.
Molly: what?
Mom: Molly get your shoes please.
Molly: Why?
Mom: because we are going bye-bye.
Molly: Why?
Mom: because we are out of milk.
Molly: oh. (And then she got her shoes)

She is stringing 3 and 4 words together but sometimes talks so quickly no one can understand her! Things we have heard her say recently:
Night night Em!
Kitty cat no no!
I see a Birdy!
Look! A light!
What's that?
Oh no. Mess. Mine Mess.
No katie! My beans!
There you go!
Thank you mama (melts my heart!)

She also has developed a love for reading. We have always tried to read her books, but up until now she only looked at a page or two. Now if you stop reading after book 5 she gets upset. Her favorites are: Going to Bed book, Belly button book, anything with flaps, 10 Little Ladybugs, and Red Hat Green hat. In the last book "oops" is on every page. She covers her mouth with her hands and giggles the word "oops" every time. Sooooo cute!

She is very adventurous. She has learned to climb the big play set:


And will peer over saying "down?" "No!"


She loves to swing in the big girl swings.


And always touches the slide before sliding to see if its hot. "Hot? Hot? Hot? Momma?"


We love our Molly Anne dearly, but I do wish she would slow down and just be my little baby!

Where: Kansas City Music Hall When: mid-February 2020 Emily's dance competition season started out strong with her team's performance at the Nexstar Dance competition in downtown Kansas City. Answered Prayers

If you read the title and were expecting something inspirational, poignant and truly spiritual... then I would lower my expectations if I were you. Although true to the title, this post will revolve around prayer. May I just first say that this post could refer to the prayers of a strung-out father and mother both of whom had a day of hell with their beloved infant, three-year-old and puppy. Their prayers were something like: "Please God remind me that I love these people and remind me FAST!" another prayer might have gone something like: " If I can just make it a few more hours, they'll all go to sleep, please Lord in Heaven let them go to sleep." And, again, true to the title those prayers were (luckily for the daughters and puppy's sake) answered. But those are not the prayers to which the post's title refers. No. Allow me to set the stage. Allowance

Our last trip to Toys R Us brought wonderful learning opportunities for Emily. She had $10 of birthday money to spend on whatever she wanted. But what she wanted was $20. I was so proud of her for not throwing a fit when I said she couldn't have it. Instead we talked and we talked and we talked some more about the fact that she only had $10 not $20. It would have been much easier if I would have actually had $10 cash and she could have tried to buy the other toy, but I didn't have cash. And she knew it. "Just use your card mom" is what she said. This discussion led to her asking "how can I get more money?" And me replying, "Perhaps it is time for an allowance!" And so we started forming a plan. Emily gets paid $2.00 a week (half her age). Part of that $2.00 is doing what is expected of her as a 4 year old as part of our family. It is expected that she not throw fits, get dressed in the morning, clear her dishes from the table, and be kind to all me...
