The Yodas

Remember when B.T. used to live with us? He was Emily's "friend" that we never saw but was so real we knew every little detail about his life. Well eventually, B.T. moved out.

And now the "Yodas" have moved in.

Katie has a friend at daycare who is obsessed with Star Wars. He has a dictionary of characters that he and Katie practically read every day. We are pretty sure that is where the Yoda idea came from.

Things now heard from Katie:

"Those silly Yodas are under my bed again! And they are soooo loud!"

"Mom, don't close the door to the van yet! The Yodas haven't all gotten out!" pause. "ok. Now you can close it. "

"Dad, that Yoda was scary! He was all dressed up and running so fast!"

I recently asked her if the Yodas came with us to Grammy's house. She said "no". Later she told me, "they didn't all fit in the car with our suitcases!"

Answered Prayers

If you read the title and were expecting something inspirational, poignant and truly spiritual... then I would lower my expectations if I were you. Although true to the title, this post will revolve around prayer. May I just first say that this post could refer to the prayers of a strung-out father and mother both of whom had a day of hell with their beloved infant, three-year-old and puppy. Their prayers were something like: "Please God remind me that I love these people and remind me FAST!" another prayer might have gone something like: " If I can just make it a few more hours, they'll all go to sleep, please Lord in Heaven let them go to sleep." And, again, true to the title those prayers were (luckily for the daughters and puppy's sake) answered. But those are not the prayers to which the post's title refers. No. Allow me to set the stage. Our last trip to Toys R Us brought wonderful learning opportunities for Emily. She had $10 of birthday money to spend on whatever she wanted. But what she wanted was $20. I was so proud of her for not throwing a fit when I said she couldn't have it. Instead we talked and we talked and we talked some more about the fact that she only had $10 not $20. It would have been much easier if I would have actually had $10 cash and she could have tried to buy the other toy, but I didn't have cash. And she knew it. "Just use your card mom" is what she said. This discussion led to her asking "how can I get more money?" And me replying, "Perhaps it is time for an allowance!" And so we started forming a plan. Emily gets paid $2.00 a week (half her age). Part of that $2.00 is doing what is expected of her as a 4 year old as part of our family.
