Mary, Joseph, and Baby Jesus

Emily is crazy about bacon. Yes, bacon. She requests it 9 times out of 10 for breakfast. If it is available, she will eat it. And eat A LOT of it.

Today at breakfast bacon was not just bacon. I was busy putting away dishes when she started pretending that Mary and Joseph were talking. (Each character being a piece of bacon.) I can' t remember what they were saying, but they were chatting away. Then I heard her say...

Mary: "Oh boy! My baby is here! (and then she rips a piece of bacon off of one of them). We will call you Jesus. Baby Jesus. (Then speaking in her best parent-ease...) How are you baby Jesus? Oh, let me lay you down here.

Joseph: I think my little boy needs a nap. Lay him here Mary. Oh don't cry Baby Jesus.

And then this continued. I grabbed the camera, took a picture and let her finish her pretend play. In the end, the bacon was gone and she washed her hands like nothing out of the ordinary happened. I put away the dishes laughing silently the whole time:)

Where: Kansas City Music Hall When: mid-February 2020 Emily's dance competition season started out strong with her team's performance at the Nexstar Dance competition in downtown Kansas City. Answered Prayers

If you read the title and were expecting something inspirational, poignant and truly spiritual... then I would lower my expectations if I were you. Although true to the title, this post will revolve around prayer. May I just first say that this post could refer to the prayers of a strung-out father and mother both of whom had a day of hell with their beloved infant, three-year-old and puppy. Their prayers were something like: "Please God remind me that I love these people and remind me FAST!" another prayer might have gone something like: " If I can just make it a few more hours, they'll all go to sleep, please Lord in Heaven let them go to sleep." And, again, true to the title those prayers were (luckily for the daughters and puppy's sake) answered. But those are not the prayers to which the post's title refers. No. Allow me to set the stage. Our last trip to Toys R Us brought wonderful learning opportunities for Emily. She had $10 of birthday money to spend on whatever she wanted. But what she wanted was $20. I was so proud of her for not throwing a fit when I said she couldn't have it. Instead we talked and we talked and we talked some more about the fact that she only had $10 not $20. It would have been much easier if I would have actually had $10 cash and she could have tried to buy the other toy, but I didn't have cash. And she knew it. "Just use your card mom" is what she said. This discussion led to her asking "how can I get more money?" And me replying, "Perhaps it is time for an allowance!" And so we started forming a plan. Emily gets paid $2.00 a week (half her age). Part of that $2.00 is doing what is expected of her as a 4 year old as part of our family.
