Donald Duck trick or treats for the first time

At the first house, Donald Duck didn't really know what to make of the whole "trick-or-treating" business. The Duck was a little cautious, a little hesitant. However, it helped that the first house we went to was our next door neighbor who said: "You can't take only one piece of candy, you're our favorite in the neighborhood!" And then our neighbor proceeded to shovel candy into Donald Duck's pumpkin.

The Duck may have been hesitant, but she's not slow. At the next house it was a cheery trick or treat and a hoisting of her pumpkin toward the candy bowl. Between houses we were treated to choruses of an impromptu musical composition: Donald Duck, Don-ald Duck, Donaldduck. It's true, our Girl was dressed as Donald Duck and making up songs whose only lyrics were the words Donald and Duck. It's fair to say that she hit her Halloween stride.

As we visited house after house, the "Trick or treat" became unprompted and eventually she added a cheery "Happy HalWEEEN!" She was running down the sidewalk between houses telling us all to "hurry, hurry!"

She sang, she galloped, she ran, she got candy. Halloween has never been this good.

Answered Prayers

If you read the title and were expecting something inspirational, poignant and truly spiritual... then I would lower my expectations if I were you. Although true to the title, this post will revolve around prayer. May I just first say that this post could refer to the prayers of a strung-out father and mother both of whom had a day of hell with their beloved infant, three-year-old and puppy. Their prayers were something like: "Please God remind me that I love these people and remind me FAST!" another prayer might have gone something like: " If I can just make it a few more hours, they'll all go to sleep, please Lord in Heaven let them go to sleep." And, again, true to the title those prayers were (luckily for the daughters and puppy's sake) answered. But those are not the prayers to which the post's title refers. No. Allow me to set the stage. Our last trip to Toys R Us brought wonderful learning opportunities for Emily. She had $10 of birthday money to spend on whatever she wanted. But what she wanted was $20. I was so proud of her for not throwing a fit when I said she couldn't have it. Instead we talked and we talked and we talked some more about the fact that she only had $10 not $20. It would have been much easier if I would have actually had $10 cash and she could have tried to buy the other toy, but I didn't have cash. And she knew it. "Just use your card mom" is what she said. This discussion led to her asking "how can I get more money?" And me replying, "Perhaps it is time for an allowance!" And so we started forming a plan. Emily gets paid $2.00 a week (half her age).
