What a Ride

And what would a trip to the House of Mouse be like without the Rides. We were a little unsure if our girl would be in for the thrills and magic of Disney rides. We had nothing to fear.

We started her out with tame stuff. To the left you can see her piloting the Indy Cars. Jessica let our girl take the wheel. Andrew was the navigator.

Later she took on Peter Pan's Flight and the Pooh ride - all of which she enjoyed, but wasn't wild over.

Then we took it up a notch. Here's Andrew and our girl riding Aladdin's flying carpets in Adventureland. Every time the ride could go higher she would say "High?" And then laugh and smile when the ride gained altitude.

And it's possible we rode Dumbo 146 times. Maybe not that many, but she loved it. Who wouldn't? It's an elephant that flies! Anyway she was a huge fan of Dumbo and on one of the last times we went we were waiting in line and she couldn't take the wait. "Ride!" she kept saying. We patiently explained that other kids got to take their turn and ride. And she would say "Ride!" just as urgently. When your heart is set on flying elephants, it's set on flying elephants.

As a side note and a cautionary tale for any Mothers who may be reading this blog:
At the outset of the trip Jessica and Andrew were having a friendly disagreement over one ride in particular - the Pirates of the Caribbean. Andrew is a big fan of all piratey things and this ride specifically. He believed that Our Girl would love it. There's a catchy tune "Yo ho Yo ho a pirate's life for me!" There are pirates chasing women around and just generally enjoying the outlaw lifestyle. Also there's a waterfall drop at the beginning.

Jessica thought that this was foolish because the ride is Dark and Scary and the drop at the beginning is Really Steep.

So we took Our Girl on the ride in an experiment to see which parent truly knew their child better.

After the ride began, we were floating along and Our Girl astutely observed that we were on a "Boat" (she's incredibly smart). Then came the moment of truth. The big drop. The DARK and SCARY waterfall in the PITCH BLACK. What would happen? Would She freak out? Would we need to advance payment on her therapy bills? Would the scars ever heal?

We go down the drop and what does our Intrepid little passenger say? "Again! Again!" She didn't just like it she LOVED IT.

Thus proving once and for all that Andrew is the better parent.

The first mistake: letting Andrew edit the blog! :)
